The saying goes, Absence makes the heart grow fonder,
and for Supra fans, that absence is about to get real. Toyota has confirmed that production of the brand's iconic GR Supra sports coupe will come to a close in 2026. Built alongside the BMW Z4 at Magna Steyr's high-capacity plant in Graz, Austria, the GR Supra's shared development with BMW helped keep costs down and complexity manageable. But even that wasn't enough to future-proof the platform. With costly new global emissions regulations on the horizon, Toyota and BMW have decided to sunset both models. As a result, the legendary Supra, reborn in 2019 with Gazoo Racing flair, will take another bow off the global stage.
Magna Steyr, the world's largest contract vehicle manufacturer, has been assembling the two sports cars since 2018. Now, with BMW pulling the plug on the Z4 roadster, Toyota is following suit. The GR Supra's run will conclude by spring of next year; and while there's talk of a successor, there's no official timeline. Definitely there will be a gap,
said Cooper Ericksen, Toyota's VP of Product Planning and Strategy, in a recent interview with MotorTrend. While hinting that the void isn't expected to stretch nearly as long as the 17-year hiatus between the fourth-gen Supra and the current GR-badged revival, he also made it clear that the next chapter depends on decisions still to be made in Japan by Toyota Motor Corporation. Whether that pause amplifies affection or dims the spotlight ... well, I suppose that's partially up to the enthusiasts who keep the legend alive.
Definitely there will be a gap. The question is how big will that gap be.
It is our goal to have a gap that is significantly less [than the last one].

While the countdown has begun, the GR Supra isn't coasting toward retirement. If anything, it's going out swinging. The 2025 model continues to deliver the same punchy power and sharp precision that earned its reputation on track and street alike. Available in 3.0 and 3.0 Premium grades, with a choice between an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission, the Supra is still every bit the driver's car it set out to be. At the heart of it all is a turbocharged inline-six producing 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque, launching the automatic from 0 to 60 in a crisp 3.9 seconds. Manual drivers aren't far behind with a still-thrilling 4.2-second run. With a performance package that feels more like a final lap celebration than a farewell, this rear-wheel-drive coupe still knows how to grip, roar, and thrill.
Slip into the GR Supra's quite-snug cockpit and the performance pedigree continues with a driver-focused layout. The 3.0 grade features black Alcantara and leather-trimmed sport seats with power adjustability, wrapping the driver in just enough grip without sacrificing comfort. Step up to the 3.0 Premium and things take on a more upscale feel, offering the choice between sleek black or warm hazelnut leather-trimmed seating. An understandably small 8.8-inch touchscreen sits at the center of the dash, flanked by a rotary controller for tactile navigation through menus. Wireless Apple CarPlay comes standard on Premium models and is available on the 3.0 when paired with the Safety & Technology Package, which also unlocks advanced features like navigation, Blind Spot Monitoring, and a Qi wireless charger for added convenience.
Sound is another part of the Supra's sensory appeal. The 3.0 model gets a capable 10-speaker, 205-watt system standard, but drivers craving a richer audio experience can opt for the JBL upgrade, which comes standard on the 3.0 Premium. That setup pumps 500 watts through 12 finely tuned speakers, delivering crisp highs and deep bass that cut through engine rumble without dulling the thrill. Additional premium options like full-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Parking Sensors with Emergency Braking, and Toyota Supra Connect services round out a suite of technology that brings both confidence and control. With bold exterior shades like Stratosphere Blue and Renaissance Red 2.0, the 2025 GR Supra backs its bite with visual punch.
It's our goal to have a next-generation Supra. We'll just have to wait and see. My goal is to get a great next-gen product that our enthusiast crowd can fall in love with again.
Cooper Ericksen, Toyota's VP of Product Planning and Strategy
As the curtain begins to fall on the fifth-generation GR Supra, Toyota is giving the iconic sports car a proper send-off with the 2026 MkV Final Edition. In true kaizen fashion, Toyota's commitment to continual refinement reaches its peak with this model, which features enhanced chassis tuning, sharper suspension geometry, improved braking, and reinforced body rigidity. Drawing from motorsports DNA and honed on the Nürburgring, the Final Edition is built to thrill whether carving corners or cruising the open road. Both 3.0 and 3.0 Premium grades return with 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque, but it's the optional GT4-style pack that truly sets this swan song apart. Inspired by the GR Supra GT4 EVO2 race car, the style pack includes red mirror caps, a carbon fiber ducktail spoiler, matte-black badging, and exclusive matte finishes. It's a bold nod to a rich racing heritage and a final lap worth savoring before this modern classic exits production in spring 2026.
Though the GR Supra is preparing to exit the stage, its legacy is far from over. From turbocharged thrills to track-inspired finesse, Toyota's iconic coupe has delivered more than just speed. It has stirred passion, loyalty, and excitement among driving enthusiasts around the world. As the final model year approaches, fans may find themselves caught between nostalgia and anticipation, unsure how long the next wait will be. But as the saying goes, patience is a virtue
... and if history is any guide, the Supra's next chapter is expected to be well worth it.
