Windmills Releases New Beers Including Gold Medal-Winning Lager

The Grandscape development is home to massive furniture and sporting goods stores, an indoor go-kart track, mini golf and countless restaurants, but the most ambitious concept yet is Windmills, an India-born brewery and restaurant that chose Grandscape for its first stateside location.

Windmills opened in early 2021 from founders Kamal Sagar and Ajay Nagarajan. With backgrounds in real estate and technology, the partners came together to create Windmills, merging their passions for beer and hospitality. The brewery occupies an eye-catching building that was designed specifically for its purpose. Wood floors and rich leathers give the two-story space the grand feel of a museum or library, where patrons can relax with good drinks, food and music.

Cal Ryan is the Director of Brewing Operations, bringing a deep resume that includes more than a decade of experience at breweries in Minnesota, Southern California and Mexico. Windmills serves 14 beers on tap, pulled fresh from the on-site tanks. For the summer, Ryan released a new lineup, including Sonidero, an American Amber Lager that won a gold medal at the Great American Beer Fest in 2022. Other new releases include Strange Reunion, a tart, lightly smoky wheat ale inspired by German Lichtenhainer. Gold is a crisp lager with a slightly sweet finish balanced by a restrained hop backbone. Lunar Wilderness is a New England-style hazy IPA, and Strike Three is a slightly hazy Imperial IPA. So Wit, a traditional Witbier brewed with a unique yeast strain and spiced with coriander and bitter orange peel. Other beer styles on offer include pilsners, pale ales and a farmhouse ale, so there's something for every type of beer drinker. And the 15-barrel brewery introduces new beers monthly, so there's always something new to try.

The eclectic food menu complements the beer, with dishes that draw inspiration from cultures around the world. Starters include a charcuterie board, wagyu empanadas, fried cheese curds and shishito peppers. There are burgers, salads and sandwiches. A breads and kebabs section features tandoor baked chicken, a lamb kebab, and a lemon-cumin shrimp kebab, while mains range from saag paneer and malabar chicken curry to a Texas bourbon ribeye, bratwurst and mash, and fish and chips.

Windmills takes music just as seriously as it does beer and food. Recorded music is thoughtfully selected to enhance the ambiance, while live performances feature some of the best performers from around the world, paired with the facility's state-of-the-art equipment.

Windmills is located at 5755 Grandscape Blvd in The Colony.
