Within the small South Dallas neighborhood of Bonton, there exists an agricultural intervention designed to restore lives, create jobs, and ignite hope in the most forgotten and neglected neighborhoods for the most marginalized and vulnerable people. Located in a food desert where it is difficult to buy affordable or good-quality fresh food, this thriving urban farm is cultivating cultural change in an area previously known for crime, drugs, and gang violence.

The original farm (known as Dallas' first urban farm) is situated on a 1.25-acre lot nestled within the community of Bonton, while an additional 40 acres (known as The Bonton Farms Extension) has now become one of the largest urban farms in the United States. In addition to rows of fresh organic produce, the farm is home to free-range chickens, goats, turkeys, rabbits, and beehives which provide an abundance of fresh eggs, milk, and honey.

Proving that a farm can redefine a community, Bonton Farms holds a belief that the neighborhood should change from within. For this reason, local residents and those in Dallas can shop at The Bonton Market and café which provides recently-harvested produce, chef-inspired hot meals, cooking classes, nutrition classes, and much more. Organization leaders additionally work to help individuals pursue job opportunities, obtain life skills, maintain suitable housing, and provide educational resources to their families.

To participate in this labor of love directed toward creating a better community, consider taking a tour, helping out during a family-friendly volunteer opportunity, shopping the apparel line or making a donation online.
