Iconic billionaire philanthropist John Paul DeJoria (co-founder of Paul Mitchell Systems hair products, Patron Spirits Company, and the new ROK Mobile wireless service) made a celebrity appearance at a recent launch party for RIDE TV, the new 24-hour cable television network dedicated to the American horse lifestyle and culture. DeJoria became interested in investing into the company after he and his wife Eloise were interviewed for an episode of Horses that Heal which took place in Georgetown, Texas, at The Arbor, a therapeutic horse-riding facility of which Eloise is part owner. DeJoria spoke with us about the global significance of the venture.

TFL: What were the key factors that caused you to become involved in this project?

JPD: I got very interested in RIDE TV when I was doing a show for them at The Arbor rehab center in Georgetown about how we love horses, and I found out that they were actually going to produce a 24-hour-a-day (eventually) television station that deals with all disciplines of horses ... all disciplines. I thought, 'That is so cool! That's what horse lovers need.' And first we'll start in the United States and get it fully distributed, and then we'll go international with it because so many people love horses. That camaraderie we have with a horse and that energy a horse has with a human being - if you tap it, it's phenomenal and very, very healing. So I wanted to be part of it!

TFL: How do you hope viewers will benefit from the programming?

JPD: Well, I do know that viewers will benefit from the programming because it's all equine disciplines, whether it's dressage or roping or rodeo, whatever it might be. And eventually, we're going to go international, whether it's in Mongolia or South America and Mexico, whether it's in Europe, all disciplines everywhere. So, if someone's into horses, they can turn on that TV 24 hours a day (eventually) and see something that relates to making them feel good. Because when you're around horses, you feel good whether it's inside in an arena or outside in nature, you just feel good.
