Beetle Mania and the Summers of Lovin'

As 2019 becomes the last year of production for Volkswagen's iconic compact car, we reluctantly have to say #ByeByeBeetle.

This is it guys ... right now is the last opportunity you'll have to snag yourself a VW Beetle before summer vacation is over and they're all gone for good. July 2019 officially marks the end of an era as production of the iconic Volkswagen Beetle comes to a halt exactly seven decades after its arrival in the United States in 1949.

Summer Lovin' Happened So Fast

For three generations, the Beetle has been woven into the fabric of American culture. But as life changes and evolves, some good things must come to an end.

The Beetle is more than a car, said Hinrich J. Woebcken, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. As we move to being a full-line, family-focused automaker in the U.S. and ramp up our electrification strategy with the MEB platform, there are no immediate plans to replace it.

Tell Me More, Tell Me More

As part of this last hurrah, the Beetle is available in four trim levels including S, SE, Final Edition SE, and Final Edition SEL. The iconic vehicle is available not only as a couple but also as a convertible and comes in classic shades of white, black, and grey as well as two exclusive new colors that serve as a throwback to previous models: an icy-colored Aquarius Blue and soft-beige Safari Uni. All models are powered by a 174-hp direct-injected 2.0L turbocharged engine with 184 lb-ft of torque paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission with with Tiptronic® and Sport mode for a fun driving experience. The vehicle achieves a fuel economy rating of 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

The interior of the Final Edition SE is appointed with black and beige cloth seats with V-Tex leatherette trim and rhombus-quilted design, while the Final Edition SEL gets elegant leather seats with diamond-shaped stitched design. Coupe models can also be equipped with an available power tilting/sliding panoramic sunroof to help provide a light, airy feeling within the roomy cabin. Along with special trims and equipment, the Beetle comes with retro-modern gauges, a multi-function steering wheel, and a heritage-inspired glovebox as part of the cleanly-executed dash build-out.

Sitting juxtaposed in contrast to its vintage aspects, the Beetle simultaneously exhibits futuristic elements such as Fender® premium audio system and a smartphone-compatible Car-Net® App-Connect for accessing selected apps via the 6.3-inch touchscreen. Additional driver-assistance technology and safety features include blind-spot monitoring, rear-traffic alert, park distance control, and more.
