2018 Toyota Camry: What's New Pussycat? Whoa!

The Academy Award-nominated song What's New Pussycat set an upbeat theme for the 1965 eponymous film starring Peter Sellers and Peter O'Toole. Likewise, the all-new Toyota Camry has been outfitted with a host of new features that make it simultaneously sleek and sexy yet undoubtedly bold and brawny.

From the tip of its eye-catching black-out roof down to even the nuts and bolts that are completely different, this year's drastically-redesigned Camry builds upon what was already a quality product to now offer a wealth of overall improvements for this latest generation. Having undergone many changes in the last 35 years to make it the number one best-selling passenger car in 19 of the last 20 years, Camry starts at an MSRP of just $23,495 and comes in a whopping ten varieties all of which come standard with Toyota's Safety Sense package.

Elegant aerodynamic curves juxtaposed to masculine chiseled surfaces offer a gritty new glamour that will fit right in from dirt track events to black tie affairs. The catamaran-inspired accents of Camry's sport grille on XSE and SE models are head turners for sure, and the available dual exhaust with quad chrome tips, standard stylized headlights, and available LED taillights offer a pleasing sight from the backside as well. And if you just can't get enough of the sporty-natured type, the XSE is available with a distinctive color-contrasting black roof which gives unmistakable visual cues to the car's lower, wider stance.

Redesigned leather-trimmed eight-way power driver's seat and front passenger seat are available in striking red leather, and soft-touch surfaces create an upscale sense of luxury. Easily-accessible dials in the driver-centric cockpit are within easy reach with controls for audio, heating, and air conditioning directed more toward the driver. A wealth of information is readily available as Camry comes equipped with a now-larger 7-inch color multi-information display containing safety information and driving alerts, an 8-inch multimedia touch-screen display with pinch-and-zoom technology, and a 10-inch color heads-up display keeps you instantly informed and focused without having to take your eyes off the road, even when using the projected turn-by-turn directions.

The combination of XSE's available panoramic glass roof with front power tilt/slide moonroof (not available on previous Camry models) brings more than twice the light of a traditional moonroof into the interior. And the available 9-speaker, 800-watt Entune 3.05 premium audio system with JBL w/Clari-Fi technology puts just the right amount of wind in your hair as you crank up the tunes on a cool summer night. Rear-seat passengers get a little lovin' as well with wider door openings (as compared to last year), additionally-supportive seats, new LED reading lights, and rear seat adjustable headrests (a first for Camry). Wider-spaced trunk hinges also make it even easier than before to transport your cargo.

A smart key with push-button start fires up the new Camry which pairs performance and efficiency via a 2.5-liter Dynamic Force 4-cylinder or new 3.5-liter V6. A newly-developed direct shift 8-speed automatic transmission (with available paddle shifters) improves acceleration, while a 3-mode drive switch (ECO, normal, sport) helps you achieve the right balance of spirited power and fuel efficiency. And thanks to Toyota's new global platform architecture (encompassing the engine, transmission, suspension, and platform), you'll be sitting approximately one inch lower to the ground and closer to the center of the vehicle in order to take advantage of the new handling and ride.

The bird's eye view system with perimeter scan provides a panoramic overhead view, while intelligent clearance sonar with rear cross-traffic braking detects nearby obstacles (and if necessary, reduces engine power and applies the brakes), and the now-thinner A-pillar gives increased driver visibility. Acoustic noise-reducing front windshield (standard on the XLE version) further works to eliminate noise, vibration, and harshness to prevent unwanted distractions. The available Wi-Fi connect system powered by Verizon (a first for Toyota) supports up to five devices. Need even more? Camry's remote connect can allows you to monitor vehicle information remotely and even find your car in a crowded parking lot.

With vehicle safety concerns seeming to rank higher with consumers than ever before, Toyota is doling out peace of mind with the 2018 Toyota Camry receiving the NHTSA 5-star overall safety rating. Toyota Safety Sense now comes standard with every grade of Camry and includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, and dynamic radar cruise control. With a goal to have zero traffic fatalities by 2025, Toyota is among a number of manufacturers dedicated to putting safer cars on the road.

Evoking emotion for a new generation of potential car buyers, the 2018 Toyota Camry surely aims to please.
