The 2020 Hyundai Sonata Engages All the Senses

With new ways to see traffic and feel the road, the mid-size sedan offers a fully-immersive driving experience.

Whether it's through bird's-eye-view technology and premium audio or signature aesthetics and touch-free access, the 2020 Hyundai Sonata is engaging all the senses. Embodying the recently-developed Sensuous Sportiness design philosophy which maximizes emotional value in harmony with proportion, structure, styling, and technology, this new generation of the brand's longest-standing and most successful model showcases an intentionally-bold updated design. From its artfully-executed lighting details to the fastback styling and sports-coupe silhouette, the mid-size sedan looks firmly athletic yet elegantly effortless. And with a wide spectrum of standard and available features sprinkled across four different trim levels, Sonata offers multiple ways to configure a personalized interpretation of their signature product.

Have a Look Around

Drivers can easily see obstacles and landscape surrounding the vehicle by using camera feedback on the fully-digital instrument display as well as a digital output of amalgamated information on the large 10.25-inch touchscreen with split-screen function. The much-appreciated surround-view monitor uses four cameras located on the font and back and side mirrors to provide an enhanced 360-degree bird's-eye view of the area around the vehicle thereby making parking maneuvers considerably easier. Once on the road, a full-color heads-up display with super-bright clarity can project updated details onto the windshield thereby allowing drivers to keep their eyes focused directly forward. Then whenever a turn signal is initiated, the available class-exclusive blind-spot view monitor (standard on the Limited trim) scans for vehicles entering either blind spot and displays a real-time camera feed from the corresponding wing mirror. Not only does this fantastic feature offer approximately an additional 25 degrees of visibility over usage of the outside mirrors alone, but it also sounds an audible alert if another vehicle is detected.

Whoa, Listen to the Music

The latest Sonata model is the first to be based on Hyundai's new innovative platform designed to provide increased strength, improved safety, enhanced comfort, and advanced technology. This model is also the first to premiere the result of a new collaboration with Bose® which was formed to produce a high-quality contemporary listening experience. A 12-speaker Bose® audio premium sound system occupies the heart of the AVN system and synchronizes to deliver crisp notes and rich sound. Centerpoint surround technology and SurroundStage signal processing optimize music throughout the cabin, while audio and equalizer adjustments are made automatically depending on the vehicle's rate of speed.

With the Touch of a Button

For the first time with Hyundai, the Sonata can be conveniently accessed using an optional smartphone-based digital key which allows the car to be unlocked, started, and driven without the still-provided physical key. This next-level advanced feature is super convenient and can be shared with family and friends on a customizable basis such as being tailored to separate vehicle functions or designated for a defined amount of time. And if you need to hop out of the car before tucking it into a tight parking space, Hyundai now offers Remote Smart Parking Assist. A first in its class, this seemingly-futuristic parking feature allows the driver to exit the vehicle and then simply press a button on the smart key to drive the car forward or backward, into or out of a parking space.

Stop and Smell the Leather

Gently pop open one of the touch-sensor outside door handles to enjoy Sonata's beautifully smart interior design which applies the brand's signature aesthetic naturally and intuitively. The slim dashboard features a first-in-class customizable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 64-color ambient mood lighting, while satin chrome accents enhance the elongated shapes inspired by the spread wings of a stealth aircraft. The resulting lightweight effect and sense of spacious cabin is further maximized by the use of appealing fabric choices, leather seating, and an optional panoramic sunroof that augments light and amplifies the airy ambience.

A Little Taste of Freedom

Rest much easier knowing that the 2020 Sonata is packed with standard SmartSense safety technologies across all trim levels including:

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection

  • Advanced Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go

  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist

  • Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist

  • Lane Keeping Assist

  • High Beam Assist

  • and more ...

Signifying the future vision for Hyundai designs, the Sonata exemplifies active safety, advanced technology, and innovative convenience elements. Trim levels include SE and SEL options which house a 191-hp 2.5L GDI 4-cylinder engine as well as the enhanced SEL Plus and fully-loaded Limited model with 180-hp 1.6L Turbo GDI 4-cylinder engine. Both drive trains are mated with Hyundai's all-new Smartstream 8-speed automatic transmission system with Shiftronic which provides improvements in performance as well as an estimated fuel economy of more than 37 mpg.

So despite starting at a value-based MSRP of just $23,600, the new Sonata just may make you look and feel like a million bucks.
