Second Thought Theatre (STT) presents the first show in its 8th season: Pluck the Day by STT Co-Artistic Director Steven Walters. Straight off its New York premiere at the Araca Group this past fall, this revamped version of Pluck the Day marks STT’s first show in its new performance home: Bryant Hall on the Kalita Humphreys Theater campus.
The Story: Duck’s drunk, Fred’s been eating peyote again and Bill’s not as gay as they originally thought he was. On a sun drenched, emotionally challenged parcel of the West, Texas landscape, three friends are held captive by addiction, fear and apathy as they wait for salvation. Enter April.
Pluck the Day features a talented cast led by Clay Yocum in the role of Duck. Yocum most recently appeared in STT’s award-winning production of Walters’ Snake Eyes at the Mardi Gra Motel. STT Co-Founder Mike Schraeder (Jack and Jill, Snake Eyes) returns to Pluck the Day to reprise the role of Fred and Co-Artistic Director Chris LaBove will make his STT acting debut in the role of Bill. STT Ensemble Member Jenny Ledel (Anton in Show Business, Glory of Living) will play April.
This production will also feature live music by Dallas musician Greg Schroeder (www.gregschroedermusic.com) appearing as Merle. On opening night Schroeder and friends will play a concert following the performance.
Returning to direct for Second Thought Theatre is DTC Resident Acting Company member Matthew Gray (Thom Pain (based on nothing), Snake Eyes, Humpty Dumpty). Gray recently directed Walters in the critically acclaimed, award winning production of Thom Pain (based on nothing). Gray (costumes, set, sound) will head up the design team which includes Drew Wall (props) and Aaron Johansen (lights.)
“When you come into our new home, we’re gonna make y’all feel welcome. Pull up a lawn chair, grab a beer, listen to some Texas music, and get ready to laugh,” said STT Co-Artistic Director Chris LaBove. “This version of Pluck the Day is more than just a play. It’s a welcome home party. What better way to celebrate our future than by paying tribute to our past?”
