Highlights of the 2016 Nancy A. Nasher and David J. Haemisegger Family SOLUNA International Music & Arts Festival:


  • “A Musician’s View” (May 16, 2016) gets listeners up close while chamber music plays on the stage of the Meyerson Symphony Center
  • SOLUNA Opening Event “Rules Of The Game” (May 17, 2016), a multidisciplinary collaboration between Jonah Bokaer (choreography), Daniel Arsham (scenography) and Pharrell Williams (music), a co-presentation of the Dallas Symphony and AT&T Performing Arts Center at the Winspear Opera House.

  • Pianist Anne-Marie McDermott and the Dallas Symphony explore “Orchestral Myth & Legend” with a newly-commissioned video by Anton Ginzburg at Dallas City Performance Hall (May 20-21, 2016).
  • Organist Todd Wilson celebrates “Legends of the Organ World” in a solo recital on the Meyerson’s Lay Family Concert Organ (May 22, 2016).
  • Pianist Anne-Marie McDermott joins Musicians of the Dallas Symphony in a “Homage to a Legend of the Violin World,” Eugene Ysaye (May 22, 2016).
  • Dallas’s Orchestra of New Spain (May 26, 2016) presents “The Break from Myth and Legend” celebrating the lasting influences of Shakespeare and Cervantes. in a semi-staged performance of dance and theatrical music.
  • Jaap van Zweden conducts Mahler’s Das klagende Lied, a “fairy-tale for chorus, soloists and orchestra” (May 27-28, 2016).
  • A free patriotic concert honors “Our Heroes,” Dallas’s veterans and first responders, outdoors at Klyde Warren Park (May 29, 2016).
  • Dallas Symphony Orchestra Artist-in-Residence Conrad Tao performs in the galleries of Dallas Contemporary in conjunction with an installation by Helmut Lang. (May 31, 2016).
  • Professional and community performers together present Britten’s one-act opera Noye’s Fludde (Noah’s Flood) in the sanctuary of the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe (May 31-June 1, 2016).
  • Nasher Sculpture Center and SOLUNA present the work of artist Mai-Thu Perret, including the newly-commissioned and world premiere performance of o (June 4, 2016).

A one-night-only event, “Rules Of The Game” is a multidisciplinary work for eight dancers and represents the largest collaboration between Jonah Bokaer (choreography) and Daniel Arsham (scenography) and their first partnership with Pharrell Williams?(score), collectively. The music composed by pop star and multi-GRAMMY Award-winner Williams represents his first composition for live dance and theater. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra will perform live at the premiere, following a three-part creation residency in Dallas for the artists which has included the casting of one local dancer.
