Artist Jason Mehl is the featured artist in a one-man show, April 16- May 28 at the JM Gallery in One Arts Plaza in the heart of the Arts District. Opening reception of his solo show titled Naked Memories is Sat., April 16, 5-8 PM. Mehl has exhibited in Houston, Dallas, Austin and Seoul, South Korea, while travelling the world.

A trained environmental scientist who is passionate about the environment, Mehl describes his work as, a medium to visualize beyond the object ... meditative tools to reconnect people with an environment that's becoming increasingly distant due to the confines of manufactured spaces. Using the language of erosion, decay, growth processes, and the passage of time, each unique work is meant to recreate a moment of discovery; something of interest that grabs our attention, something familiar, but can't be easily defined.

Titled Naked Memories the Mehl show comprises works of bronze, resin, and glass.

Mehl Describes Current Work

This body of work has been built by appropriating and reinterpreting the same basic form. It's a study of the morphology of recollection. Using the language of erosion, decay, growth processes and the passage of time, each unique work is meant to recreate a moment of discovery, something of interest that grabs our attention, something familiar, but can't be defined. These works represent found objects tied to the memory of an event or moment in time.

We are delighted to have Jason Mehl join the group of outstanding artists working in a variety of media that we have presented at our JM Gallery in One Arts, says Gallery Dirctor Christopher Heinlen.

About the Artist

Originally from Dallas, artist Jason Mehl has spent the better part of a decade exploring the world while creating art. Mehl has produced work since the mid 90's, and began exhibiting in 2007. After graduating in 2002 with a degree in Environmental Science from Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, TX, most of Mehl's twenties were spent traveling around the rapidly vanishing wildernesses of North America. Living out of tents, hammocks, and a truck; seeking natural areas--areas with silence and solitude-- places where dynamic forces create intriguing patterns over time. From 2008, Mehl lived in South Korea for five years where he produced and exhibited a body of sculpture. In 2013, he closed his Seoul studio and returned home to Dallas with a full shipping container, and there he continues to work and exhibit.
