Disney Studios Taps Nancy Medina to Host Floral Painting Workshop

Workshop was part of a promotion for the North Texas opening of the live action film Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

Nancy Medina Tapped by Disney Studios to Host Floral Painting Workshop | by Jo Ann Holt | News | Dallas, Texas, USA

Recognized by American Art Collector Magazine as one of the best floral and botanical artists in the U.S., Nancy Medina was recently tapped by Disney Studios to host a workshop for them.? Disney brought a group of journalists from around the country to a floral painting workshop led by Medina in Irving. The workshop was part of a promotion for the North Texas opening of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” a live action movie that quickly captured the #1 Box Office slot.

In a recent blog post, Medina wrote, “For years, I’ve joked about waiting on a call from J.C. Penney asking to use my paintings for their sheets and bedspreads. Then I could buy that cabana on the beach, paint at leisure, and drink fruity things out of coconuts all day.”

“Yesterday, I got a call from Disney. Of course, the whole time I was on the phone, for one ? two ? three calls in a row from them, I was wondering if this was some sort of prank. I’m still wondering that! But even as everything is coming together for a collaborative event with them, I am prepared for someone to say, 'Smile Nancy, you're on Candid Camera!' (young folks, just Google to find out what that means?)”

“I’m super excited I’ve been asked to work with Disney to host a flower painting workshop, designed to help promote the advance screening for ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ What does ‘Beauty and the Beast’ have to do with me? Elise, the Disney coordinator, explained that the movie is filled with flowers!”

Known for her bold, impressionistic florals and large container gardens that are immediately eye-catching, Medina is a master signature artist and instructor for the Dallas Arboretum.? Her paintings and videos are collected around the world.? She conducts workshops online or in person in the U.S. and Europe. She quit her corporate job as director of a national magazine to pursue a full-time career as an artist and art teacher four years ago.

Medina says, “One morning I had an epiphany: Life is too short not to follow your bliss. Every day I wake up and my heart surges with happiness. Yes I am an artist. Yes, this is what I do for a living.”

Medina teaches throughout the U.S. and Europe, sharing a loose, bright technique that evokes brilliant color.  She says her love of art and gardening started on her childhood farm in Scurry, Texas.? Her parents were organic gardeners, and early memories are of standing barefoot beneath 11-foot sunflower stalks in the family garden.

Medina studied art history and illustration at the University of London, King's College, Chelsea, and oil painting and color theory at Texas A&M University. Her original oil paintings have been featured in print and web publications and on the covers of magazines. She is a master signature member of the Artists of Texas.? She is also a member of the prestigious Daily Painters Gallery, the original international gallery of 150 artists who produce new daily works of art for collectors across the globe.

Her work is represented by galleries in Texas and California. Nancy is a consulting editor for?Visual Language Magazine, a signature member ofContemporary Fine Art International, a member of?Associated Creative Artists of Dallas, and an associate member of the Oil Painters of America.

Today she resides with her husband and their four pugs in Flower Mound, where she paints daily from Flower Mound Art Studio.
