American Flat Track Racing Series Comes to Texas Motor Speedway's Dirt Track | News | Fort Worth, Texas, USA

The American Flat Track racing series will be coming to Texas Motor Speedway's dirt track in Fort Worth Saturday April 28, 2018. If you are like me, you might have thought that the national touring flat track motorcycle racing series (that seemed to be on Wild World of Sports every weekend) had stopped racing; but that could not be any further from the truth. The racing series has seen a recent resurgence and is now stronger that it has been in probably the past 10 years.

This is year three of the turnaround for the American Flat Track Racing, formally the AMA series. They are currently riding the momentum from last year's highly successful racing season. The man responsible for the turnaround is current CEO Michael Lock and his determined team. About the turnaround, Lock said, It was really 2 years of diplomacy [on my part] with our fan base and our [racers in the] paddock to get them to trust in the future. He added, They had been bitten many times before of promises of a grand future often not being delivered ... I was very sensitive to the fact it's not good enough that I know it's going to work, it's not enough ... there has to be an army of people who trust in it and help make it happen. Lock is no stranger to running two-wheeled businesses that like to go fast. He was CEO in America for both Triumph and Ducati, as well as COO at Lamborghini.

American Flat Track series, as it is now known, fills race tracks all over the country to near capacity 18 times a year. They could race more weekends as they have many track promoters requesting them to come to their tracks because everybody migrates toward success. But why they don't race more weekends? We are considering the part time professional racers which is our future ... the big money-factory teams would race 30 weekends if we would let them, but the commitment to make that many races is not something our part-time professional racers could do currently.

Like many of the other national dirt track racing series that typically get shunned by the national sports channels, the American Flat Track series has been finding great success with live internet streaming of their live races. You can currently find them on Fans Choice TV. One of racing stars that came into her own last year was Shayna Texter. Shayna came within an eyelash of winning the AFT singles championship at her home race track in Williams Grove, Pennsylvania.

Unfortunately, she got a flat tire on the first lap of her qualifying race; and unlike other dirt racing series, the American Flat Track series did not have a last chance qualifying race to give her a second chance to qualify for the A main race, thus ending her race, the season, and unfortunately her bid to win the season championship. She was obviously disappointed, but she is back more determined to win a championship this year.

Shayna rode the past two seasons for Honda, but this year will make the switch to Husqvarna Motorcycles for her chase of AFT Singles division championship. The Husqvarna name is a bike manufacturer that is legendary around the world, so it appears Shayna will have a strong showing again this year. One the tracks that was added to the schedule last year is the dirt track at Texas Motor Speedway located in Fort Worth, Texas. Last year, the race was in the fall; but this year it has been moved to the front side of the schedule to accommodate the race teams' travel schedules. It is also a huge benefit to the racers because the racers race with the full leather suits, so the cooler spring temperatures will be more bearable.
