There are plenty of dancers and prancers on stage this month as Dallas Summer Musicals presents Broadway Christmas Wonderland at the Music Hall at Fair Park. This classically-nostalgic holiday revue features a half dozen showcase vocalists along with a high-kicking chorus-line ensemble that keeps hoppin' and a-boppin' and singing traditionally-familiar songs like Rockin' Robin,
Jingle Bell Rock,
and Happy Holidays.
Seasonally-oriented video projections along with 400 festive costumes and over 1,000 prop pieces (like spinning umbrellas, oversized peppermints, and hand-held snowballs) accent backdrops depicting a variety of winter scenes (like snow-covered landscapes, a gingerbread house nestled in a candy land, Rockefeller Center, and more). Additional surprises include a two-story toy shop, an appearance by a jolly singing Santa, and a giant mascot-style mouse whose only wish for Christmas is to receive his two front teeth.
A variety of dance styles from past decades are complemented by contemporary moves as well as a tap dance number with Frosty the Snowman, elves which glide along a conveyor belt in OK-Go style, a 23-person hand jive, and even a few acrobatics sprinkled on top just for good holiday measure. Two very impressive performances by a pair of world-champion ice skaters send the crowd into extended applause, and a host of white-robed candle bearers line the aisles during a Gospel Christmas Time
segment which includes the songs Silent Night,
Mary Did You Know,
and an extremely soulful rendition of Joyful, Joyful.
So sit back and relax for this serenely-enjoyable feel-good evening of nonstop musical entertainment. Broadway Christmas Wonderland has come to town for a two-week limited engagement which runs Tuesday, December 6 through Sunday, December 18, 2016 with tickets starting at just $20.00.
