Despite cloudy skies and scattered showers, Mazda MX-5 enthusiasts gathered at Globe Life Park in Arlington on Sunday for a chance to sign the one millionth Miata as it rolled through town on stop #15 of an 18-city tour which began and ends at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Since its debut in 1989, the Miata has been admired by drivers worldwide and has held the Guinness World Record for the best-selling open-top two-seater sports car for many years. The MX-5 is also critically acclaimed and this year became the first and only car to win both World Car of the Year and World Design of the Year at the New York International Auto Show. This particular right-hand-drive Japanese-specification soft top edition of the world's best-selling roadster was built on April 22, 2016 marking a milestone in the company's 27-year history of production.

As the car makes its way around the country to celebrate the accomplishment and give back to loyal fans, the first 240 owners and admirers at each location are being given the opportunity to sign one of the 4,320 spots reserved for the U.S. leg of the tour. Registrants also receive a commemorative Millionth Miata Celebration Tour T-shirt and other memorabilia. Accompanying the all-new model is a classic red 1990 model which made its world debut at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show, and also on display is the full current Mazda vehicle lineup including the Mazda 3 hatchback, Mazda 6 sedan, CX-3 subcompact crossover, CX-5 crossover, and CX-9 seven-passenger SUV.

As the American leg of this tour comes to a close, the one-millionth MX-5 will head to Australia before being retired to the Mazda Museum in Hiroshima, Japan, where it will be covered with more than 20,000 signatures from enthusiasts worldwide.
